Butylene Glycol
Organic substance butylene glycol, also known as 1,3-butanediol, is categorized as a diol (an alcohol containing two hydroxyl groups in its molecule). It is a colorless, water-soluble liquid with two (OH) alcohol groups and four carbon atoms. Its scientific name is CH3CH(OH)CH2CH2OH. Organic alcohol butylene glycol, sometimes known as "butanediol," is widely used in cosmetic products. Butylene glycol functions effectively in skincare formulations as a slide agent and a humectant because to the high amount of hydroxyl groups it contains in its chemical composition.
