Calcium Carbonate
Chemically, calcium carbonate has the formula CaCO3. It is a frequent substance that appears in rocks as the minerals calcite and aragonite and serves as the primary building block of pearls, gastropod shells, eggshells, and shellfish skeletons. Plaque has been demonstrated to retain calcium carbonate particles, and this may affect caries by neutralizing damaging plaque acids and simultaneously freeing calcium.
