Ceteth-20

Ceteth-20

Ceteths are ingredients that belong to a class of compounds called alkyl PEG ethers, most of which function as surfactants in cosmetic products. Ceteth-20 is used in the formulation of hair dyes and colors, hair conditioners, permanent waves, and other hair care products, as well as makeup foundations, cleansing products, and other skin care products.

Ceteth-20 is a non-ionic surfactant from the polyethylene glycol family that is frequently used in cosmetic products. It facilitates the dissolution of other ingredients in a solvent in which they would not typically dissolve. It helps to form emulsions by reducing the surface tension of the substances to be emulsified and it cleans the skin by helping water to mix with oil and dirt so that these substances can be rinsed away. It is used at 0.2-3% concentration in leave-on products and at 0.04-4% in rinse-off products.
